Loek van den Berg Quintet

Photographing the Loek van den Berg Quintet for promo photos to accompany their new album, Seafarer, was such a fun and dynamic experience! The nautical theme of the album, with its striking black-and-white aesthetic, gave us the perfect inspiration for the shoot. We brought the concept to life right in the heart of Rotterdam, starting with small dinghy boats surrounded by dry ice before moving aboard the iconic Vessel 11. Despite its quirks and restrictions, the location added so much character to the images. As a fellow musician, I kept a close eye on their instruments—water and winter are always a bit nerve-racking! But the band’s energy and personality made it all come together beautifully. It was all about natural light, creative outdoor settings, and making every moment count with this brilliant group!
